What is beef mince?
Meat doesn’t come much more versatile than beef mince. Our beef mince is different due to both breed of cattle and cut selection – Its depth of flavour is the hero behind many family favourite dishes including lasagne, a classic ragu, cottage pie, and beefburgers.
Made from 100% meat, with absolutely no additions, a selected blend from the forequarter of the animal, including chuck and rib cap, are ground coarsely twice. Quick, economical, and easy to cook with, it’s little wonder this star ingredient is a regular feature in the weekly meal plan of many families.
Beef mince cooking time
Although dependant on the recipe being prepared, 500g of beef mince will take around 6-8 minutes to cook and colour once it’s been added to a hot frying pan.
Best way to cook beef mince
- Add a dash of oil to a hot frying pan.
- Remove the beef mince from the packaging and distribute it evenly into the pan.
- Stir it over the high heat for around 6-8 minutes so that it doesn’t stick to the pan and browns evenly. Season early on with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. You may find some liquid is released prior to the meat browning – an appropriately large, hot pan will alleviate this.
- Try not to over stir. Instead, allow the mince to develop a nice brown colour before breaking it up and turning.
